Orthotic therapy
The London Podiatry Centre's approach towards orthotic therapy is unique and highly objective. Rather than simply issuing orthoses based on a number of assumptions we utilise advanced technology to ensure that the devices improve biomechanical function.
There are three fundamental types of orthoses.
- A semi-customised appliance, which is partly pre-made and partly customised to the patient's individual requirements.
- An orthotic generated with computerised-assisted design and manufacture, whereby part of the information is obtained from a previously designed template
- A bespoke customised foot-orthotic utilising the most advanced computerised engineering processes available. These devices are ultra thin, last many years and maintain their corrective effect extremely well.
Orthoses vary in price, with option 3 costing the most. Orthoses are made to last for several years and in the case of advanced appliances (option 3) one would expect at least 5 years of use.
The soft top covers of the orthoses require renewal every year or so but this is a relatively inexpensive process.
